On January 13th , Belarusan leader Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya and President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola met in Vilnius.
At the official part of the meeting, Metsola invited Tsikhanouskaya to take part in the Summit of the European People's Party in order to make Belarus one of the topics on the international agenda, reported on Tsikhanouskaya's website.
Separately, Tsikhanouskaya dwelled on the topic of political prisoners. The leader suggested supporting the idea of creating an international fund. Its purpose is to support the families of political prisoners and rehabilitation of those who have been released.
After that, the President of the European Parliament met with the families of political prisoners, as well as with former political prisoners. In particular, the meeting was attended by the husband of trade unionist and social activist Palina Sharenda-Panasiuk, Andrei Sharenda. The Belarusians told stories of being behind bars and urged Metsola to make every effort to free those who remain in prison.
Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya proposed Roberta Metsola to become a symbolic godmother of one of the Belarusan political prisoners and to encourage other MEPs to join this campaign.
