“They brought in some lawyer-on-duty and did everything in his presence”, says Andrei.

The union and civil activist was expected to be released on May 21, 2024. According to her husband, she has had several reprimands recently; also, she spent some time in the punitive isolation ward and the solitary isolation cell. Her relatives tried to send her a parcel at the prison camp but the wardens refused to take it, claiming that “somebody had already brought her some food in the morning”.

On May 2, 2024, the Rechitsk District Court examined the case of imposing preventive supervision on Palina Sharenda-Panasiuk as her prison term was coming to an end.

Palina was first arrested in January 2021, and the court sentenced her to two years in prison, the charges included insulting Lukashenka along with a representative of the authorities and violence and a threat of violence against a police officer.

She was to be released in 2022, yet she was convicted again for defying the administration of her prison camp (Article 411 of the CC) and her term was extended for another year. For the second time, her relatives expected her to be released on August 6, 2023, but she was given one more year in prison convicted under the same Article.
