Ihor Shukanau, 62, is accused of participation in protest actions and defamation of Aliaksander Lukashenka, reports “Nasha Niva”.

The closed trial of the Mozyr Oil Refinery IT and Communications Laboratory assistant will start on February 26, 2025, in the Mozyr District Court. Shukanau is charged under two articles of the Criminal Code.
Part 2 Article 367 of the RB Criminal Code (“defamation” of Aliaksander Lukashenka combined with an accusation of committing a grave or an especially grave crime) entails six months to six years in a general regime penitentiary.
Under Part 1 Article 342 of the RB CC (participation in protest actions), Shukanau’s potential punishment ranges between an arrest and four years of high security prison.
Shukanau was detained on August 01, 2024, by officers of the Main Directorate for Combating Organized Crime who had arrived from Minsk. He was captured right there at his workplace, following which he was taken off the premises in a UAZ-Patriot company vehicle.
At the parking lot near the main entrance with onlookers present, the officers staged a demonstration arrest, dragging Shukanau out of his car, throwing him face down on the asphalt, pressing his head to the ground with a knee, and handcuffing him.
It should be noted that on the morning of the same day Shukanau had already been tried for a non-capital offence of disseminating “extremist materials”. At that time, he was fined and released but a few hours later they detained him again.
