The leader of the Norwegian Red party, who recently became Aliaksandr Yarashuk's "godfather" in the #WeStandBYyou solidarity campaign, made a request to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for action by the ministry to release the union leader.
This became known from a letter of the Norwegian deputy, in which he condemns the sentence to the trade union leader and the Lukashenka regime, promises to continue consideration of the case in Norway. In turn, Bjørnar Moxnes hopes that the appeal, filed by Aliaksandr Yarashuk's lawyer, will lead to a milder sentence or acquittal.
Please let me know if there is anything else we could do. Keep fighting for workers' rights and democracy - the letter says.
Rødt is a left-wing political party in Norway. Founded in 2007 as a merger of the Workers' Communist Party (WPC) and the Red Electoral Alliance (RV). Was the largest non-parliamentary party in Norway, with 90 local councilors, until it was elected to the Storting in the 2017 parliamentary elections. In the Norwegian parliamentary elections, the Reds won eight mandates, and they were evenly divided between men and women. Support for the party has increased since it entered parliament, surpassing the 10 percent barrier, according to polls, more than doubling since the 2021 elections.
Bjørnar Moxnes is the current leader of the Rødt, a member of the national parliament of the Storting and a member of the parliamentary committee on defense and foreign affairs.
